I Got to Be Apart of An Anthology

Quiet. It’s a word that’s followed me throughout my life, often carrying a weight of unspoken judgments. From childhood to adulthood, being labeled as “quiet” seemed to come with its own set of expectations and assumptions. But today, I’m sharing a personal journey of embracing introversion and breaking free from societal pressures.

In the anthology “Perfectly I’mperfect,” I had the opportunity to share my experiences with introversion and the challenges it presented. Growing up, I often felt misunderstood and overlooked because of my quiet nature. It seemed like society favored the outgoing and outspoken, leaving little room for those of us who preferred solitude and reflection.

In this week’s podcast episode, I dive deep into my school years and the impact of being labeled as “quiet.” From group projects to social gatherings, I struggled to find my place in a world that seemed to value extroversion above all else. But amidst the noise of societal expectations, I discovered a surprising outlet: the high school speech team.

Yes, you read that right–the speech team became my sanctuary, a place where my quiet voice was not only heard, but celebrated. Through speech competitions and public speaking events, I found the courage to step out of my comfort zone and embrace my introverted nature. It was on the stage, in front of an audience, that I truly found my voice.

Quiet may have been a label placed upon me, but it’s a label I’ve learned to wear with pride. Through introspection and resilience, I embrace my introverted nature as a source of power rather than a limitation. And in sharing my story, I hope to inspire others to do the same.

Tune in to this podcast episode for a heartfelt exploration of introversion, self-acceptance, and the transformative power of finding your voice. It’s time to rewrite the narrative and redefine what it means to be quietly confident.
